The doctors come back with all kinds of tubes, machines and tools...including a large dyalisis machine. The lead doctor turns out to be Cameron, and he starts to organize the rest of the team. Two doctors quickly start to set up the dyalisis machine's water system in the room's bathroom. Another starts to take Shawn's current vitals. The whole process takes about a half hour or so. Finally, Cameron looks to the gathered family of Shawn...

Dr. Cameron: Alright. We are ready to start the procedure. I'm going to have to ask you all to leave the room, as....well we don't want to risk infection of the paitent...or you guys. Remember...you will hear him in pain....but trust that we know what we are doing, please.

Erin nods, as everyone files out of the room. Alex is helped back to his own room by Gabe, Amanda and Alexis. Erin slumps down in a chair in a waiting room, bracing herself for what's coming.

About five minutes pass and then Cameron can be heard...

Dr. Cameron: Mr. Cortez....Now I know I've explained the procedure to you. We are about to begin. We've numbed up the area as best we could, but we had to be careful cause we don't know how the anestetic would react with poison in your skin. Are you ready to proceed?

Shawn: I....a.....m....doc.....t....or...

Dr. Cameron: Very well. For what it's worth...I'm very sorry.

Silence. Then the sound of cutting can be heard. Finally, Cameron sighs...

Dr. Cameron: Alright, doctors. We have him open. Look at the muscle structure, the joints and ligaments. This stuff has worked its way into all of that. Well....lets get started. Main tube please...

There is a loud, gruesome sound of plastic being inserted into a human body...and a loud, continuous, blood curtling screams from Shawn...

Shawn: O....o...kay.....s....t....op.....p...le...a...s.e.....STOP!.....

Raquel can't bare the sound and walks down the hall, slumping in tears into a seat

Ashley cringes at the sound, unable to shake the thought that that could have very well been him going through this if Caley had her way back in Seattle. That is, if Ashley had survived in the first place...

The sounds of wet snapping continue and the screams intensify. Shawn can barely contian himself....

Erin runs over to the door and calls out to Shawn.

Erin: I'm here baby..... it's Erin.... you're doing so well.... I'll be in there the second that the doctor's are finished sweetie..... just hold on a little longer.

The screaming goes on for the next fifteen minutes, even so much to the other paitents in the hospital looking down at Shawn's room with concern. Finally, Cameron yells 'Clear' and the screaming seems to subside...

Raquel hadn't walked far enough away to not hear everything. The screams pained her for Shawn's sake. But the realization that not only had he never said her name,that she could hear in the room, but was yelling out not for her, but for his ex-wife hits her like a knife to the gut.
She grits her teeth, trying to convince herself that things will clear up once this is all over...She forces herself to walk over to the door, shaking slightly

Cameron emerges from the room, covered in black fluid. His mask is still on...

Cameron: The ammount of poison in his body...and the fact that he's still alive right now...is absolutley amazing. He's hooked up to the dyalisis machine. A full cleaning is going to be about twenty four hours...but you should be able to go in and see him now.

She smiles at him, and runs in to see Shawn she takes his hand.

....Shawn?.......I'm here baby..... it's Erin.

Raquel watches, she enters the room without even realizing she started walking. She feels weak. Faint.
Her knees buckle.
Ashley grabs her

Ashley:"Come on, lets sit down"

she speaks weakly

Raquel:"I need to see him..."

Ashley:"Raquel I think you should sit down for a moment hun."

The only energy Raquel has goes into pushing Ashley away and calling out Shawn's name

Raquel:"Shawn!"

before nearly hitting the ground. Ashley grabs her

Ashley:"For foks sake Raquel..."

Raquel:"....sh....awn..."

Ashley looks over at Shawn and Erin

Erin gets right up up close to Shawn's face so their noses are touching. He puts his hand to her face.

Erin: Right here baby..... right here.

Shawn: R...aque...l? Is...that you? You sound.....faint....

A twinge of the pectoral muscle where the cathater is and Shawn cries out just for a moment...

Shawn: God...thi.....s....hur...t.s.....This....is.....t....oo...muc....h...

She gently reaches out, touching his hand

Raquel:"It....it's me Shawn its...me..."

she pulls her hand back at Shawns cry, but puts it back a moment later

Raquel:"Shawn I..."

Alexis cringes at the sound of Shawn's screams, and tries to cover Alex's ears so he didn't have to hear them.

Alex clenches his jaw at the sounds of the screams, but seeing Lexi's concern he removes her hands from his ears and kisses them.

Alex: Thanks honey.... but I'll be OK..... I promise. But if it's too much for you.....you can step outside the hospital if you want..... I wouldn't blame you.
