After a while...Dr. Jordans comes out of an elevator, holding some files. He hands a couple off to some nurses and walks over to the group.

Dr. Jordans: Well, as I said before, Mr. O'Ryan was stable. He's awake now and it seems the liver tests are going to take a few...well...hours to be honest. If you want, I'll let you guys go up and see him.

The five walk into Ashley's room and the sight is...tough to bear for some. Various tubes and wires are all connected to the man. He is propped up in his hospital bed, oxygen tube in his nose. The subtle 'beep' of the heart monitor is the only sound in the room. Dr. Jordans walks in past the five...

Dr. Jordans: Welcome back to the waking world, Mr. O'Ryan. Now we have you on some mood dampeners to keep you calm. You need to keep your blood pressure down. The preliminary tests showed that the heart attack struck first, but you also have the growing symptoms of a stroke. You need to stay calm right now. No overly stressful situations. If you don't there is no telling what could happen to you.

The doctor looks to the rest of the group...

Dr. Jordans: Please, keep your voices down and for the love of God...no stress. His heart isn't strong enough right now. I'll be back a little later for his hourly vitals.

Ashley looks at the group and almost instantly closes his eyes, letting out a slight groan

Colin leans into Alexis, whispering
Colin:"Now might not be the best time to give him the...good news."

She lets go of Alex's hand and walks tentatively up to the bed, not wanting to disturb anything connected to Ashley, and leaves her left hand at her side, below his line of sight.

Alexis: Hey dad.

Colin:"How you feel?"

Ashley:"Like..I...look."

Ashley:"I'd...like a moment...with my children...alone please."

Alexis stiffens, and hesitates for a moment, then brings up her left hand... with the ring Ewan had once given Jillian on it. She keeps an eye on the machine where Ashley's vitals are displayed

All of a sudden...

Doctors and nurses come piling into Ashley's room, checking the vitals....then down the hall, Ashleigh screams, "DADDY!" The doctors realize they are in the wrong room and shuffle out.

All eyes are on the commotion and then Ashley looks back at Alexis, his thumb running over the ring. He sighs and looks at them both

Ashley:"I..was wrong to try to tell you what to do. I can't control your lives...I can't control what you want to do...or who you want to be with. I can't make your decisions for you..."

he glances at the ring

Ashley:"Even when I don't agree with them...they are still yours to make."

Alexis: I wasn't expecting it that soon, really. I don't think he was expecting to ask that soon either.
