Hours later theres a knock on the door

Ashley:"Aye?"

the door opens, Colin pops his head in and sees Ashley and a rather attractive looking nurse sitting together

Colin:"Hey dad."

Ash smiles

Ashley:"Colin"

Colin looks at the two

Colin:"I can come back if you two are in the middle of something..."

Naomi: So you're Colin. Wow...you look just like your dad. It's nice that you came to see him. Ashley...I'll be outside....

Naomi leans in and gives Ashley a kiss on the lips....

Naomi: ...if you need me.

Colin looks amused at his father as Naomi walks out the door

Colin:"I was told you might be courting a nurse but...I wasn't expecting that."

Ashley:"That?"

Colin gestures towards the door with a smile

Colin:"Looks like you found where to get the good meals in this place."

Ashley:"Shes ...shes 'elped me a lot."

Colin sits down

Colin:"How you feeling?"

Ashley:"I 'ave me days. Today was one o'them...I think I'm starting to get used to the fact that me daughter is getting married but..."

Colin:"But she's marrying Ewan's son and you think Ewan might try to use it against you?"

Ash sighs

Ashley:"All I've been able to think about lately is 'ow I could ever right that...I 'onestly don't know 'ow Ewan will react to me at this wedding and...I know it sounds like shallow paranoia but I can't 'elp but worry 'es going to try to get under me skin during this wedding."

Colin:"It's his sons wedding too. I doubt he'll try anything"

Ashley:"I know...I know...Bloody 'ell why can't I just talk to 'im?"

Colin:"Have you actually tried."

Slowly Ashley looks up, this realization...In almost nineteen years, Ashley can't recall one time where he picked up the phone and tried calling Ewan...or Jillian

Ashley:"I...I don't know if...if I could just call from out o'the blue loik that..."

Colin:"Look, I figured this might come up. Alexis and Alex are going to try to talk to him about it...maybe...maybe they can reach him."

Ashley:I 'ope so...Look I'm...sorry for all the shite I put you through I.."

Colin:"It's okay. I'm not going to hold a grudge against a man who is trying to change his ways. After all, I'd rather see you on top again rather then...the way you were the past fifteen or so years."

Ashley:"If not longer..."

Colin:"...Yeah...It's good to have you back, dad."

Ashley:"Oh, before you go, I got something I want to give you..."

he walks over to the hook his jacket is hanging from and pulls something out. In Colin's hands he places the flask Colin gave him as a gift. Colin stares at it confused.

Colin:"But...?"

Ashley:"I don't exactly need it anymore. Look...if I ever...look loik I'm about to fall off the wagon...just show me that. Alroit?"

Colin looks at it, then at his father and nods

Colin:"I should get going. I'll stop by in a few days. Maybe introduce you to Amber."

Ashley:"Amber huh? Alroit...stay out o'trouble."

Colin:"Psh, it's me...when have I ever been in trouble?"

As Colin leaves the room he spots Naomi

Colin:"So tell me...how far you see my dad and you going?"

Naomi: The day after tommrow. I just talked to Dr. Jordans. He's going to need to take blood pressure medicine and obviously quit drinking....his liver can't handle it anymore. Dr. Jordans is also thinking he might need...therapy. I was going to break the news to him just now.

Naomi: Yes. He...he thinks that his drinking was a coping mechanisim...obviously. Wesley...er...Dr. Jordans thinks that your father actually suffers from depression.

Naomi: I think it was part of it...and I think he knew it was wrong. So he felt depressed about his drinking....which lead him to drink more. He felt bad about not being a great father or husband...which lead him to drink more...and once the spiral started...it was the only way he felt...to find some peace. The only thing he did...right...

Colin:"My father is a beaten man, with years of guilt...but...I don't think he's going to open up to just anybody."

Naomi: I know...but...if he's going to embrace this second chance that life is giving him...he has to realize that it's not going to come for free. He has to work at it to gain his life back. I know he can be strong if someone stands beside him...he will need you and Alexis.
