Ashley glances out the open door, seeing and hearing everything. He slinks back into his bed closing his eyes with a sigh
she's happy. Thats what important, right?
"...I guess..."
you're scared that Ben might replace you?
"Why wouldn't 'e...'es successful. Decent. Full of loif...why wouldn't 'e?"

Meanwhile,
Amber holds onto Colin's arm, resting against him. He looks over at Alexis and shakes his head

Colin:"Not tonight. You all enjoy each others company."

Naomi: Your vitamin drip is going to take a while....and I'm here all night. Did you want to talk about it?

Ashley sighs, closing his eyes for a few minutes...just as Naomi thinks he isn't going to say anything, he speaks

Ashley:"'ave you ever lost damn near everything, and the moment you make an effort to get the most important pieces back, you find out the price you 'ave to pay is the only thing you 'ad left?...That's wot me loif feels like roit about now."

Colin:"I guess..."
with that, Colin and Amber decide to leave

Raquel watches them go and looks at Alexis

Raquel:"For what its worth..congrats."

As he and Amber leave, Colin pulls out his phone and sends duplicate texts
"Your son proposed to my sister. She said yes. Dad is in the hospital. Thought you should know."
he pauses for a moment, wondering if this is the right thing to do. Finally he hits send
text sent to: Ewan & Jillian

he sends another text, this time to Micah
"Shitty day. What you upto?"

Alexis: It's worth a lot Aunt Quelly, thank you.

She goes and gives her a hug.

Ashley pauses for a moment
Ashley:"The only thing I 'ad left...is the very reason I'm laying in this fecking 'ospital room. It was me solace, and me destruction. It was a thirty plus year suicide. It was almost a success...but somebody with a sick sense o'humor decided that I shouldn't come near death until I wanted to try living again."

Naomi: But...you are alive, aren't you? Which means you haven't lost your chance. It might have taken you a long time to get back in the game...but you're here, right? I mean...your daughter was here...with you, concerned about you. She wants you, Ashley...

There is still time. Nothing is over until you die...and you've tried that. Maybe...it's your time to start feeling good about your life...and yourself.

Naomi: You know, there's an old saying. "If you're going through hell, keep walking." You made it through, don't you see that. Sure you have scars, we all do...some deeper and more prominent than others...but you're alive...and if you're alive, you can fix things.

I suggest you employ a different stragety then the one that got you here. Second chances...especially with family, don't come very often...and, as it looks to me...your children are waiting for you.

Naomi: Being scared can be healthy, hon. It can keep you on the right path...but never be scared of who you are. Surpass it, sure...overcome it, of course...but never be scared of it. You can't deny who you are...

...but you can CHOOSE...to be better. Smile

After she leaves, Ashley lets out a sigh of both happiness and sadness
So many things happened that its impossible to say that this wasn't a milestone day in his life...whether he liked it or not.
He spoke with his children and...at least made as much peace with them as was possible at the time.
His daughter was engaged. This was going to be a big pill for him to swallow but...he has to let her live her life her way.

one of the most bittersweet things...

Naomi, she didn't realize but...that was the first touch of a woman Ashley had had in years

About three hours later, Ashley had unknowingly drifted off to sleep. The monotone of the heart monitor must have had something to do with it. He finally comes to and realizes that Naomi, who is now in her off duty clothes has been sitting in the chair next to his bed. She's nodded off to sleep, but...she was there...for him. She finally comes to...

Naomi: Mmmm...oh, I'm...I'm sorry. I must have fallen asleep.
